Statistics Are Still Wrangell-Petersburg

[edit]

The title of the article has been changed to reflect the separation of Wrangell Borough from the former census area, but all the statistics are still Wrangell-Petersburg. From maps that I have seen of the new borough [1] the borders seem to be very close to those of Census Tract 3, by the Census Bureau's definitions. If this were to be the actual case then the new Petersburg Census Area would have lost over 43 percent of its former territory. Backspace (talk) 09:41, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Organization of Petersburg

[edit]

According to a phone conversation with the Petersburg City Hall on 8 January 2013, because of a vote on 3 January, the Borough of Petersburg was officially established at 2 pm local time that day, so the area is no longer a Census Area.

Thanks for the update! I found a map of the new borough[2], but we may have to wait to see what the Census Bureau decides to do with the rest of the census area. --Lasunncty (talk) 09:41, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! This State of Alaska website indicates that Juneau Borough is expanding, but the potential line between Petersburg and Juneau seems to be ill-defined and possibly in contention, so only time, the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau will tell.

The city website is also in the process of adjusting to the borough government establishment, too.
